Lisa and Leila's (Mis)Adventure:

Gallery Gallery

Lisa and I were burning to find the Archeological Museum in Merida. So determined that we would forgo placating our grumbling tummies, and leave our group. Craft shops further from the center of town sucked us in like black holes. A local bar was adorned with old west style doors. Patrons sipping idly. Tired, hungry, not quite sure where we were, and a lot further from the center of town, we bumped into people who steered us toward our destination. We finally did make it there with a half hour before closing. Enough time to say that we actually made it. To go inside and see some of the incredible artifacts retrieved from the sites of Mayan ruins. But the moment of arrival was worth more than anything I saw inside. Quintessential. The adventure back was as exciting as the one there, although a little less confused. We happened upon a gallery. Dimly lit, with grandiose sculptures, and expensive looking furniture of dark wood. The two pictures above are from this gallery. We comically tried to explain to the owners that we were art students in Spanglish. I think we were able to communicate. The gallery had four rooms, one outdoors, a sculpture garden. The first picture is taken there. A little girl of black backdropped by light and a magnificent wall of blood red and ebony. The second is of two small figures which decorated a wall close to the owner's desk. I wanted to take them both back home, so I snapped a photo.
